With Brian Henton in Italy to try and boost March sales in that country it gave someone else a chance to win a Lombard North Central round. Another small increase in numbers this week with 12 cars making it to Mallory Park

It was raining heavily for the race and as the flag fell Tony Rouff jumped into the lead he would hold for the whole race, Derek Lawrence was similarly untroubled in second finding the 1600 cc Ehrlich ideally suited to the difficult conditions. Most of the other runners seemed to spend the race either spinning or suffering from water in the electrics but Jose Chateaubriand managed to avoid both problems to take fourth, Chateaubriand had spent most of the race fighting off Nicholas von Preussen but the latter fell away towards the end of the race only just holding off José Santo at the finish. The two GRDs of Pedro Passadore and Alex Ribeiro were amongst those to suffer from the aforementioned spins and electrical difficulties which negated their good grid positions. Any chance Bob Arnott had with the Modus M1 were ruined by a spin at Gerards that filled his radiators with grass.

Once again details are limited for round three of the Italian F3 Championship, Brian Henton brought his car over from England and in very wet conditions he dominated the race until waterlogged electrics dropped him down the field. Larry Perkins also arrived with a new March but was involved in an accident in the early stages and didn’t finish.

It was back to eight cars for the latest Lombard North Central rounds despite the addition of the Ippokampos March 743 of Buzz Buzaglo and things weren’t improved when the third gear on Tony Rouff’s GRD failed just before the race as it had in practice. Previous regular runner Bob Arnott failed to make it with an engine shortage for his Modus M1. As in previous races the grid numbers were increased by the addition of other runners, this time it was the F Fords

Brian Henton went straight into the lead and proceeded to pull away to a nearly 23 second win, initially José Santo challenged Alex Ribeiro but he gradually fell away to finish third. Derek Lawrence drove a good race to take fourth despite the handicap of the 1600 cc engine fitted to his Ehrlich. Nicholas von Preussen was out on lap 1 when his March retired with a flat rear tyre and a blown head gasket.
